Taking flight

A new painting today!

The title is a little tribute to the first mixed media book I ever bought ("Taking flight" by Kelly Rae Roberts), you could call it life-changing!

This one was a bit of a challenge as it turned out very different from what I had planned originally. You see, last year around Xmas I had painted this angel. And lately I really felt like painting another one.

I had started a background and roughly sketched a face...

But eventually the two didn't seem to work together. Still, I kept working on the face, hoping that at some point it would "fit":

But it didn't. Of course that was really frustrating! But then I had to make a decision... and so the angel had to go. Well, not completely. You can't "see" it in the painting now, but I like to think that it's still there, hidden, invisible, but none the less present "backstage", like real angels are...
