Maybe that's because the solstice is approaching, but I'm more than ever fascinated by the play of Light and Shadow these days. And texture. And color... So here's a peek at what I'm up to lately: new, big abstract paintings, a solo show, encaustic wax and Layers of Light… Read on!
In less than a week I know I will feel more vulnerable than ever. It's a funny thing to say but it's true. Because that's what stepping into the light does. Putting your work "out there", showing your art, sharing what you're so passionate about that you can hardly explain it... Sharing what makes you come alive, makes you who you are, at your very core, with all your light and beauty, and all your imperfections and clumsiness too.
It's time to make a dream come true! This new painting perfectly embodies the Joy, Beauty and Transformation that are happening in my life and in my soul as I am building... my first online classes! Get on the wait list to stay informed and tell me what you'd most want to learn: it's time to make a wish!
... my very own, in-the-flesh/paper copy of Somerset Studio!!! with my art on the cover and a (pinch me)... 5 page feature! Total dream come true.
For the past 2 weeks, it all felt a bit unreal, until I could finally hold it in my hands tonight...
I'm only starting to realize what this truly means to me, deep down. What it means to this little girl inside, my "inner artist", after years of being "locked up", and then, four years ago, finally mustering the courage to pick up a brush, buy her first canvas, go for it and never look back.
This is about following our dreams, trusting our inner voice and opening ourselves up to JOY. This is about my kids (even if right now they couldn't care less!). It's about showing them the way, so that one day, when they start to hear the whispers of their own hearts, they'll know better than to cover them with noise, and, hopefully, they'll allow themselves to listen, and trust, and follow their own paths.
For that matter, this is about all my loved ones. And about all of YOU, out there, somewhere, you whom I've never met and maybe never will, but who, somehow, are walking beside me for a little while.
Believe in your dream, believe in yourself. Trust your very own, unique journey. Sometimes there are unexpected turns in the road, sometimes we take a detour and feel like we're running backwards, sometimes we stand at crossroads and take a wrong turn. That doesn't mean we should give up on our dream, only maybe we need to reassess the way to reach it. Trust your inner guide, your inner voice, that little joyful, playful, magical child. And take the next step...
Dream come true!!!!!

Big news + we have a winner!
Thank you so so much everyone for coming up with so many awesome names for last week's painting (my first completed canvas from Flora Bowley's Bloom True course)!! And above all thank you for all the energy, the enthusiasm and the warmth of your comments here and on facebook, you guys rock! But before I tell you the title I have chosen among your many inspired suggestions, I've got news...
...I'm going back to school!
Last week I just started a 16 months program to train as a professional cultural activities leader (I'm not sure if that's the right way to put it in English, it's a typically French degree) Basically it's at crossroads between art workshops facilitator and community service, something like that. So, one week per month I'll be going to class, and the other weeks I'll be working (and learning!) at a youth and cultural center near where I live. It's going to be a big change in our family's daily lives, and in my creative life as well. My priority, in my spare time, will be to focus on my art, but I'll keep posting here as often as I can. And I'll definitely be blogging about this new project! + for more frequent updates on my journey, you'll find me, as always, on my facebook page (and by the way, you don't have to have a facebook account to view it). I look forward to sharing this new adventure with you!
So now, the title! First, here are all your wonderful suggestions that I've collected, I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I have and, who knows, you might feel inspired to borrow a title for one of YOUR paintings! I do have a few favorites that I'll surely be using in the future...

OMG! Pinch me!...
It's here!!! My first ever magazine publication! Yay!!!!
And in one of my absolute favorite mixed media magazines too: this month's Cloth, Paper, Scissors, which is packed with amazing art and articles to feed your creativity!
The article is about one of my "winged keys" called Hypothesis. To find out more about this piece and the other winged keys in the series, click on the following pictures and then on the "Read more" links.
A huge thank you to the CPS team and in particular to editor Jenn Mason, who's been so wonderfully encouraging when I first sent her my portfolio back in January!
The magazine is available for purchase HERE and if you're outside the US and don't have access to the "real" paper magazine, you can always grab the digital version!
I hope you enjoy the article and would love to know what you think, so please leave a comment! If you have some assemblage pieces that you would like to share, or pieces that include a key, or artwork that is part of a series, tell us and share your links too!
Have a lovely fluttery day...
Bye bye Lalyblue...
... don't worry, I'm not going anywhere! But as some of you might have noticed, "Lalyblue" is softly taking her leave.
But like most things techy, all these little changes (+ more soon-to-be-released changes to the blog) have taken a gigantic portion of my time lately. I'm sleep-deprived, the kids are mom-deprived and prince charming is showing heroic patience and support: he even took his day off today to take care of little sore-throat-princess so I could catch up on some painting and write to you!
So, why bother you may ask? Well, the thing that started it all is that I recently found out about a lovely illustrator/designer from Spain who is using almost the same name (Laliblue, check her out, she's got some awesome stuff). There was a moment of panick, but then I realized I was actually starting to feel pretty OK about using my "real life" name. And after a while it felt more than OK, it felt good, it felt right, it felt empowering.
A year ago, as I was showing my work for the very first time at an art show, I was feeling so vulnerable. I told you earlier that calling myself an artist was a real challenge at the time. "Lalyblue" was the name I had chosen over 10 years before when opening my very first email account ("laly33" ? no thank you, I'd rather add a color, give me some blue sky!). Since then it had become a part of me, even a nickname used by my family. So when I finished my first painting, and signing it was so intimidating, I instinctively wrote "Lalyblue"... And that's how "she" became a sort of alter ego, helping me on this creative path, protecting the shy little girl in me from the fear of seeing her art and herself exposed, helping me deal with fears and insecurities, until I could get comfortable with this new self, my true self, my artist self.
I told you in this post that TRUTH is my "word of the year". At the time I had no idea how it would unfold, but now I see how it helps me every day, gently nudging me in the right direction. Laly Mille is my name in everyday life, and guess what? This creative life has become my everyday life! I feel such gratitude for the kindness I have received from you all on this blog, on facebook, at art shows, and for the love and support of my family. All of it has made my wings grow, and it's carrying me towards my dreams, higher than I would have imagined only a year ago. For the first time it feels safe to just. be. me.
By the way, do you want to keep following this journey with me?......Subscribe to the blog! And if you have a blog of your own and would like to show your support to this brave new me, grab my button in the sidebar! Thank you!
Wishing you the loveliest of days / evenings, wherever you are ♥
I'll be at the Paint and Sculpture art show in Ballan-Miré (37, France) on January 26 and 27, in the beautiful venue of the Ferme de la Haye. Come meet me and see my work "for real"!!!
Oh my gosh I am so thrilled to tell you that I opened a shop on Zazzle! I'll be blogging about it in more detail as soon as I can (it's really late in the evening right now in France!) but I couldn't wait to tell you about it!
HAVE FUN SHOPPING!

Here is a little article (in French) about the weekly workshops I am teaching at a local arts/community center! It was published last Tuesday in the Nouvelle République newspaper and I hope it will bring me a few more students as I only have 3 at the moment...
Great news! Starting next september I will be teaching 2 weekly mixed media and creativity workshops! I'm thrilled and ideas are flowing, must be a good sign!
