In the safety of our art journal we can find refuge and fully be ourselves, fragile, imperfect and vulnerable. By simply expressing and accepting who we are, we can find renewed strength and confidence.
What if we filled our art journal with little hiding places: flaps, pockets and even a mini junk journal to hold our dreams, our stories and the secrets of our hearts?
What if not everything was immediately visible? What if the layers of our page echoed the many layers of who we are, under the surface?
What if we gave ourselves the freedom to play, have fun and get messy, while expressing our emotions in the safe space of our journal?
I love projects that are deeply meaningful, and at the same time fun and whimsical. In "Hiding Places", we're going to start by creating some "story elements": a postcard, a secret mini journal, a special teabag... They will become the building blocks of our page, weaving our story as they come together.
I really encourage you to follow your creative impulses and dare to get messy: have fun with drips and splatters, embrace the grungy feel, the contrast of black and white... and journal your heart out!
Through art and words, the journal can be a wonderful portal of imagination as well as a safe, intimate space to express our emotions, hold our secret dreams and tell the stories we hold within.

I will guide you step by step as you prepare several fun "story elements" to hide into your page:
a mini junk journal
a special, magical tea bag
permission slips & affirmations
found poetry
an altered postcard
I will also be by your side as you:
Create a messy, grungy background to loosen up, release emotions and embrace imperfection
Take the time to play and experiment to build up the story of your page
Add finishing touches with color, journaling and even stitching… to really make the page yours
This online art journaling class has around 2 hours of high quality, beautifully shot videos. I show and explain everything in detail, and I encourage you to make the process yours and work with what you’ve got. If you've ever taken a class with me, you know I like to keep it clear and super inspiring!
I answer students questions twice a week in our private forum right within the class site, and with lifetime access, you can re-watch the contents as long and as often as you wish. All videos are in English, with English captions available.
I hope this project will inspire you to add little “hiding places” in your art journal from time to time!
