I’m Laly Mille and I am delighted to be walking this path with you for a little while!
I’m a french artist living in the Loire Valley of France, with my husband and our two kids (you’ll notice the french accent in the videos, especially the first ones...).
I started painting in the spring of 2010 after I discovered mixed media art and instantly fell in love with it: creating my first painting felt like being born again, like coming home to myself.
I had always believed in magic, and suddenly I had the tools to make it real!
To turn my dreams, my feelings and stories into something tangible. An authentic expression of who I am, and at the same time a mystery with a life of its own. A deep connection to my inner light that’s always available to me, as long as I have some paints, some bits of paper, some glue, and a little bit of time...
Cultivating the beginner's spirit
I am a self-taught artist, and getting rid of the who-do-you-think-you-are voices has been part of the challenge every step of the way: from my very first show in 2012 to launching this online course!
But today I consider this a blessing: I have learned everything I know intuitively, or through experience, trial and error, and thanks to the generosity of some amazing artists who have shared their magic and wisdom.
I have never done it to please others, yet with the desire to inspire. I have never tried to follow any rules, yet my process has become a solid foundation that I can now rely on and share.
In this class we will talk about some fundamental notions like composition and line, contrast and focal point, texture and color… Just not the academic way. My purpose, as a teacher, is to pass on what I know from experience and practice, and to share my process with you as authentically as possible. This means that sometimes, it will get messy, and that’s OK!
It also means that, more than learning the techniques, I really encourage you to experiment, to let go, to give yourself the chance to come up with your own magic. I will do my best to answer your questions, but sometimes I will ask you "Have you tried?…" I will also be honest if I don’t know the answer. I only know so much and will encourage you to research and share your discoveries!
Art and your inner light
Throughout the course you will hear me talk about the relationship between art and life, about connecting to your inner artist, your intuition, and growing from this place of truth and joy, about serendipity and happy accidents… It’s my experience that the more connected I feel to my inner light, the more I let go and open up, the more peaceful I feel, the more light-filled the work becomes. My hope is that this course will help you shine your own light through your art too.
Art-making is a deeply spiritual practice for me. It’s my connection to Soul, Source, the Universe, however you feel most comfortable calling this bright, warm and mysterious light.
I walk my own spiritual path pretty much in the same way I make art: lovingly, intuitively and authentically. And I respect your path, whatever it may be. I am so grateful it has led you here.
