Do you ever feel drawn to create, but don’t quite know where to begin?

Maybe you...

… feel overwhelmed by too many materials or unsure what to use? You might think you need special supplies or complicated techniques to create something beautiful.

The beauty of this approach is its simplicity. With just magazines, a few basic tools, and a spirit of curiosity, you can gather everything you need and start creating right away—no pressure, no overwhelm, just playful exploration!

…get frustrated when you finally have time for your art, because inspiration doesn’t show up when you need it?

That’s why I always have a few lovely magazines nearby. Just flipping through the pages, full of beautiful images and inspiring stories, letting a word or a color combination catch your eye, is enough to spark an idea and get you going!

… struggle to create pages that feel cohesive or meaningful? You add collage elements, but they don’t seem to “come together” or tell a story.

That’s where layering, blending and combining images with different supplies makes all the difference. As you combine images, text, and textures that resonate with you, trusting your intuition and imagination, your page will naturally begin to form a story—one that reflects your inner world and grows organically as you create.

In this special class, I share all my little secrets to help you turn simple magazines into layered, unique art journal magic!

What if...

  • you could open a magazine and immediately see colors, textures, and details that spark ideas—knowing exactly what to look for and how to turn it into a page filled with depth and inspiration?

  • you could take a single image and transform it into something entirely your own, layering papers, marks, and paint until it no longer feels like a magazine… but like a magical story?

  • you could follow your intuition as you create, allowing each element to guide the next—until a meaningful scene begins to emerge, rich with atmosphere and imagination?

Yes, yes and yes!

Discover how to use magazines as a starting point for mixed media art journaling, build beautifully layered pages with collage and texture, and develop a creative process that feels expressive, intuitive, and deeply personal.

Say yes to your creativity!

Hi, I’m Laly

When I first started using magazines in my art, I didn’t realize how much inspiration they held. Over time, I began to see them differently—each page filled with colors, textures, images, and words waiting to be transformed.

I discovered how a single magazine feature could guide a whole page—offering a color palette, a feeling, a story. By deconstructing images and combining them with papers, fabrics, and paint, I could transform simple materials into layered, expressive artwork.

That’s how I fell in love with this intuitive, playful process. With a few supplies and what naturally draws your eye, you can create pages that feel rich, personal, and full of meaning.

In this class, you’ll discover how to:

  • see magazines as a source of endless creative inspiration

  • gather colors, textures, images, and words that resonate with you

  • build layered mixed media pages using collage, paint, inks and even words

  • follow your intuition and let your story emerge on the page

I can’t wait to share this delightful process with you, so you can turn everyday materials into expressive, story-filled art that feels truly your own.

The Lessons

Let’s explore intuitive art journaling using magazines, collage, and layered textures—transforming simple pages into meaningful, story-filled artwork through creativity and playful discovery!

You’ll discover how to look at everyday materials with fresh eyes, gather what speaks to you, layer images with intention, and transform imperfections into something magical.

You’ll end up with soulful and whimsical pages, plus a fun and freeing process to use again and again in your art!

Part 1

Treasure Hunt

In this first part, we’ll explore how your favorite magazines can become a rich source of inspiration and collage materials, full of images, colors, textures, and details that naturally spark ideas and reflect your personal style.

Together we’re going to:

  • Look for inspiring images, textures, and colors that speak to you.

  • Gather beautiful elements like flowers, light, cozy interiors, and meaningful symbols.

  • Discover patterns, borders, backgrounds, and frames to build rich, layered pages.

  • Collect words and phrases to create your own gentle, poetic storytelling.

  • Learn how to follow what feels like you and build a personal stash full of creative treasures.

As you build this collection of materials, you’ll start creating a layered foundation of inspiration, ready to bring depth, story, and personality into your art.

Part 2

Deconstructed Magazine Page

It’s time to create a magical page! Let’s take a single magazine feature and use it as a starting point to create a layered art journal spread.

Discover how to:

  • Gather a cohesive selection of colors, textures, patterns and images.

  • Collect words and phrases to create your own gentle, poetic storytelling.

  • Combine magazine elements with papers, textures, paints, and more.

  • Arrange and refine your composition to tell a new, personal story.

  • Layer and blend your elements with techniques that build depth and contrast, while bringing your page together seamlessly.

As a personal story begins to emerge, watch the original page turn into a richly textured piece that feels entirely your own!

Part 3

Imaginary garden

Gardening magazines are an endless source of inspiration for mixed media floral art! And when we layer them with simple paint marks, a whole garden begins to bloom. Your imaginary garden!

For this second page, we begin by gathering floral inspiration from magazines—flowers, branches, cottages, windows, and meaningful details that draw your eye. You’ll learn how to sort your images into intuitive groups, guided by color, atmosphere, and what resonates with you.

In this project I invite you to:

  • Gather floral images from magazines in a variety of colors you love, plus other natural elements like branches, trees, leaves, grasses…

  • Sort your images into intuitive groups, guided by color, atmosphere, and what resonates with you in the moment.

  • Add whimsical elements that draw the eye, like garden furniture, windows or even a cottage…

  • Begin envisioning how it might all come together on the page.

  • Play with mixed media techniques and simple mark-making to build lush, colorful layers.

Layer by layer, you’ll create a magical garden scene where textures, colors, and imagery blend into a personal landscape filled with depth, story, and imagination.

Your Guide
for this creative journey

Hi, I’m Laly and I'm so glad you’re here!

Ever since I was a teenager, I’ve been in love with magazines: home decor, gardening, lifestyle, mindfulness… They’re an endless source of beauty and inspiration!

Way before I became an artist, I’d cover my high school notebooks with large images or intricate collages. I’d collect dreamy photos that resonated with my soul, and pinned them to the walls of my bedroom.

This is probably where my love of collage and mixed media stems from!

I’m so excited to share this very special and super fun class with you. You don’t need to know how to paint or draw to create magical art journal pages!

 Your Questions Answered

If you don’t find an answer below, don’t hesitate to reach out by email at support@lalymille.com. We’ll do our best to help!

I've never tried collage or mixed media before. I can't even draw a straight line! Can I really do this class?

Totally! Collage is super freeing and forgiving, and you don’t need any special painting or drawing skills to create something beautiful. Once you’ve gathered your own stash of personal imagery from a few magazines, you’ll be well on your way to making art that’s personal, whimsical, and tells your own unique stories.

As we paint with simple marks over the images, beautiful layers will start to appear and each page will become a cohesive whole, filled with depth and color!

I don’t have a lot of materials. Will I need to spend a lot of money on magazines and art supplies?

No! You can definitely make beautiful art with minimum supplies, and one or two magazines are enough. You might not even need to buy any! Ask around to friends and family, your doctor’s office or your local library for past issues they no longer need.

For collage, I do recommend matte gel medium as a glue, but other than that, I encourage you to use what you’ve got. If you don’t have an art journal, of course you can do the projects on pieces of paper (heavy watercolor paper, card stock…). This is all about having fun, not making masterpieces!

I’m an experienced artist. Will there be anything I can learn from this class?

Yes! No matter if you’re already into collage or not, working with magazines is a wonderful opportunity to renew your inspiration, uncover new themes and color palettes for your art, and relax with a fun, no-pressure process. Plus, if you’re anything like me and have hoarded magazine images for years, this is the perfect opportunity to finally use them! This class is all about taking time for YOU, to relax, rediscover and reconnect to the light of your creative soul.
