Below is a list of suggested supplies for the class. Don’t hesitate to use what you’ve got already, and add any other materials that inspire you! This is YOUR star you are painting, stay open to where it wants to guide you…

Substrate

The substrate of your choice : wood panel, canvas, paper… Any shape or size that inspires you: you can work in your art journal, or actually on a piece of card-stock the size of a tarot card, or even on a big canvas!

BASIC TOOLS

  • A palette (or a simple white plate). You’ll see that I use a whole lot of small transparent plastic lids as mini palettes (they come from... Pringles cans! Not very glamorous but they work for me!).

  • Water + Spray bottle

  • A piece of cloth / rag

  • Something to protect your surface (old towel, placemat…)

  • Something to protect your clothes (apron, old shirt...).

  • Optional: Craft heat gun (embossing tool) to speed up drying

  • Your fingers!

  • Your choice of paintbrushes, including a medium-sized flat brush for collage

  • An old plastic card (credit card, key card...) and/or palette knives

COLLAGE

 
  • Your choice of collage papers (including some neutral tones) text paper, book pages, botanical prints, scrapbook papers, brown bag, sewing pattern tissue…

  • White Tissue paper

  • Matte gel medium

Paints & inks

  • Light acrylic paint: white + a neutral tone such as Titan Buff, Naples Yellow Light or you can simply mix your own, for instance with Titanium White and a bit of Raw Umber

  • For the night sky: Payne’s Grey or other dark blue of your choice + primary blue or turquoise acrylic paint or ink

  • Green acrylic paint of your choice: Sap Green, Jenkins Green or mix your own

  • Brown acrylic paint or ink (Raw Umber and Burnt Umber are nice choices)

Other Supplies

  • Something golden or metallic to make your little star shine! Gold acrylic paint, Panpastel or gold leaf etc…

  • Water resistant fine tip pens for journaling: I like white and black Posca pens, black or brown Pitt artist pens with a fine tip, and regular pencils.
