Affirmations for your artist soul
Dear artist,
Have you ever felt the longing to create⦠but also the hesitation to begin?
Maybe youāve told yourself you need more time.
More experience.
More confidence.
But the truth is something I deeply believe:
Your artist soul is already here.
Creativity is not reserved for the ātalented few.ā Itās a natural part of being human ā a spark within us that longs to be expressed.
Sometimes all we need is a little encouragement to remember this.
These artist affirmations are gentle reminders that creativity already lives within you. Each one is paired with a small, doable creative invitation so you can reconnect with your creative soul and take one simple step into the joy of making art!
Affirmation 1:
I am an artist right now, as I am.
The artist in you is already here,
woven into your curiosity, your dreams, your hands.
You do not need to become someone else to begin.
Your creative soul is enough, exactly as it is.
Creative invitation:
Take five minutes today to make a single mark ā a brushstroke, a collage piece, a scribble in your journal.
Let it be imperfect. Let it be playful.
This simple act is your reminder: you are already creating.
Affirmation 2:
I don't need a degree, a gallery, or a perfect plan to create beautiful art.
Art does not ask for credentials.
It asks for curiosity.
For exploration.
For the courage to follow inspiration wherever it leads.
With a little paint, paper, or pencil, beauty can begin to unfold in unexpected ways.
Creative invitation:
Gather whatever materials you have nearby ā an old magazine, scraps of paper, markers, or paint. Create something small using only what you have. No planning required.
You may be surprised by what appears when you simply allow yourself to explore!
Affirmation 3:
I am allowed to begin, even if I feel unsure.
Every artist has faced the blank page.
That moment of uncertainty is not a sign that you shouldnāt begin.
It is simply the threshold of creativity.
The first mark always feels a little uncertain. But that mark opens the door to everything that followsā¦
Creative invitation:
Open your sketchbook or art journal and fill one page with playful marks: Lines, shapes, colors, patterns, or words.
There is no right or wrong way ā only exploration.
Affirmation 4:
I make space for my creativity.
Creativity flourishes when we make space for it.
Not necessarily large stretches of time ā but moments of intention.
A table.
A sketchbook.
A few art supplies within reach.
When we create space for art, we also create space for ourselves.
Creative invitation:
Clear a corner of a desk or table and place a few of your favorite art supplies there.
This little creative corner can become an invitation to create whenever you have a moment, even in the middle of a busy day!
Affirmation 5:
Making art makes me feel alive, and that's all the proof I need.
Sometimes we forget that art does not need a purpose beyond joy.
The feeling of being absorbed in the creative processā¦
The colors, the textures, the quiet focusā¦
These moments reconnect us with something essential.
Creative invitation:
Spend fifteen minutes making something purely for the pleasure of creating.
No pressure to share it. No expectation for the result.
Just you, your materials, and the joy of the process.
A gentle place to beginā¦..
If mixed media sparks your curiosity and youād like a relaxed way to explore it, Iāve created a free painting demonstration where you can watch the creative process unfold step by step. Itās a gentle introduction to layering, intuition, and playful experimentation.
Reconnecting with your creative soul
Creativity does not require perfect conditions. It begins with curiosity.
A brushstroke.
A scrap of paper glued into a journal.
A moment at your art table.
Each small act of creation brings you closer to your inner artist. And with time, these moments begin to form something beautiful: a creative practice that nourishes your soul.

It may sound counter-intuitive, but to create my āword of the yearā art journal page about light, I started with a really dark background. First, as a symbol of the darkness I wish to leave behind this year, but also because I knew it would make the light stand out even more. It's a very simple page, really: light, dark, collage, paint. A few words to express thoughts and emotions, and invite inner guidance to show upā¦
